Prince Edward Island · Provincial Park
Overview
Basin Head, at the Island’s east end, pairs a long white-sand beach with the tidal channel — “the run” — that cuts through it. Tourism Prince Edward Island describes Basin Head’s sand as “singing” underfoot. The water in the channel and shallows is as warm as the Island gets.
Trails
The walking here is the beach itself — sand walking east and west from the channel, at its best around low tide. There is no marked trail system in the park.
Camping
Basin Head is a day-use park; there are no campsites in the park. Day use is free.
Alerts
Swim in supervised areas in season where they are provided; unsupervised beaches have no lifeguards, and currents near the channel mouth are strong. The dunes are fragile habitat — stay on marked paths.
Indigenous & Culture
This park stands on Epekwitk, the traditional territory of the Mi’kmaq people.
